The Gold Museum of the Bank of the Republic of
Colombia is located on the corner of Street 16th with 5th in Santander's park,
in the historical center of Bogotá.
It has the world's largest pre-Hispanic gold
collection, with about thirty-four thousand pieces of gold and tumbaga; it also
exposes different objects of Colombian indigenous cultures like: Calima,
Muisca, Nariño, Quimbaya, Sinu, Tairona, San Agustin, etc.
The first exposition was in 1940, it was a private
one, in the boardroom of the bank. In 1947, was assigned a room that could be
seen by special guests and finally in 1959, the museum opened its doors to the
general public.
The Gold Museum is a great and very interesting place to visit because it shows many things of our past and our history, also is really cheap and you can visit it free on Sunday.
