THE BOTANIC GARDEN

The Botanic Garden of Bogotá (José Celestino Mutis) was founded in 1955, due to the botanic expedition, one of the most important expeditions of the XVIII century, it had a period of 33 years, where 20,000 plants and 7,000 animals where cataloged.
The Botanic Garden has been a foundation, corporation and now an entity from the mayor of Bogotá.

In my opinion the botanic garden is a great place to visit because you get to know Colombia’s flora a little bit more and you can see beautiful and incredible plants and trees and also is really cheap so you can do all this easily.

THE GOLD MUSEUM

The Gold Museum of the Bank of the Republic of Colombia is located on the corner of Street 16th with 5th in Santander's park, in the historical center of Bogotá.
It has the world's largest pre-Hispanic gold collection, with about thirty-four thousand pieces of gold and tumbaga; it also exposes different objects of Colombian indigenous cultures like: Calima, Muisca, Nariño, Quimbaya, Sinu, Tairona, San Agustin, etc.
The first exposition was in 1940, it was a private one, in the boardroom of the bank. In 1947, was assigned a room that could be seen by special guests and finally in 1959, the museum opened its doors to the general public.

The Gold Museum is a great and very interesting place to visit because it shows many things of our past and our history, also is really cheap and you can visit it free on Sunday.

MONSERRATE

From the top of Monserrate (3,210 m) there is a very good view of the city, it is reached by a funicular railway and a cable car near to the church. A platform gives a bird-eye view of the city sunrise and sunset, this can be spectacular. There are 2 up market touristy restaurants at the top. If you wish to walk up, possibly the safest time is in the weekend, about 5 o' clock. It is best not to walk to the top of Monserrate alone.

Monserrate is one of the most representative places in Bogotá and is a great experience to visit it because is not that expensive and also is a really beautiful place.

BOGOTÁ

Bogotá was founded the 6th of August, by the Spanish conqueror, Gonzalo Jimenez De Quesada. The new city became the vice-regal capital of New Granada. In 1717, it was colonized by Simon Bolivar and in 1819 it turn into the capital of the independent nation of Great Colombia.
The city grew slowly because Bogotá's people wished to preserve their old culture.

COLOMBIA

Colombia is a tropical country of incredible diversity, it’s varied in geography, in flora and fauna, in celebrations and ethnic, it’s also famous for its coffee.
The national anthem was composed in 1887, with lyrics by Rafael Nuñez and music from the Italian composer Orestes. Our shield, designed by Francisco de Paula Santander, has a condor holding a green laurel with the beak entwined with a gold ribbon with the motto “Libertad y Orden”.
